Oh I'm sure your right because it makes to much sense to let us sleep when we are tired and not penalize us for it.

The only big difference I see is that we don't make six figure incomes for working a few hours a week like pilots. We in fact make squat for working a lot more hours.

Only the very top rung make that kind of money. Most pilots make less than a newb truckdriver anymore.

The cops have to take our word for it that we actually spent at least 8 hours in the sleeper. They have to take our word for it that we actually rested for those 8 hours.
Why? Because there wasn't a DOT standing there monitoring us to make sure we actualy slept.

Is it too much more of a stretch to take our word for it when we tell them "we pull over and sleep only when we get sleepy"?

There should be a merit system. Many guys are very careful drivers. And should not be condemned to the same childish laws as those who don't.

Has anyone ever seen a pilot UNLOAD luggage or PAY a lumper to do it for them?
But you forget, pilots are NOT considered UNSKILLED LABOR like truckdrivers are!!!

    hrdman2luv Thanks this.

I suppose IF the pilots threw their "yellow and brown presents" out the window...It'd REALLY be bombs away.

Your right! A new pilot will start at around 25K to 35K and they are away from almost as much as a truck driver. Just remember that the next time you have to fly on a puddle jumper.

I split my sleeper berth time....This is how...

Say you drive for 5 hours.....
Get to a rest area and take a 2 hour nap.....
Drive again and then turn in for the night at a truck stop....
Now you are only required 8 hours for your break.....

Your are required 10 total......but that's how you can split the time.....You just can't split "concurrently"....

I do it on occasion.....and sometimes at shippers or receivers as well....

I do this also but what I originally meant was the "old" option of split sleeper where you could split as many times as you wanted. I know it will never happen again but that actually let us sleep when we needed to and not penalized for it. They are really gonna have to give us some way to stop that clock other than the 8 hr sleeper when EOBR's become mandated.
