Expensive mistake. What I want to know is, if that was a wooden decked bridge would the driver still have decided to cross it? It would have been tricky but, these trucks do have reverse on them.
rocknroll nik Thanks this. -
Two weeks running solo... not long enough to make a right decision.
I'm sure the driver never ever thought he'd see a portable scale... if he even knew what they were...The Challenger, Flying Finn, rocknroll nik and 1 other person Thank this. -
Them thar weight limits and bridge height signs do really mean something don't they? -
$17,000 fine to the newbie, only 2 weeks into his job.....he'll either have to stay at swift to make up the fine money, or he may have been fired.....we do not know....he said he thought the sign was for another bridge....HMmmm...the flashing sign was at the bottom of the bridge, yet he 'pondered" as what to do......
well......Swift, must have had a good trainer teach him to "ponder" flashing signs......
i wonder if he will pound the pavement pondering his new job prospects....
just like all the dumb@zz drivers that cross over the bridge in Pawtucket,RI, clearly marked to FIND another route....which that state has set up for truckers, yet the state of RI has collected over $10 million dollars in fines so far....from all those "pondering" whether to chance it or not........ -
Taking forever to load the news website. But i heard this on the CB. Figure it was just another "hey lets make up a story about some dumb swift driver", so i didnt give it any credibility. guess it was true. =)
But if you dont read the sign or look for one on any bridge you cross, you deserve the fine. If you know you're right at 40T, and the bridge says 35T, you CAN turn around. narrow two lane blacktop? no problem. Yeah, you might have to REALLY watch your mirrors, or if late at night, watch for headlights, and backup in the opposite lane of traffic. or better yet, if you know you're legal for the road, but not the bridge, call a cop (if you dare) and ask for assistance. they'll probably run your DL and whatever else.
but you get to an intersection.....you turn left....then stop and back up....and turn left again.....there....u didnt make a u-turn, and you turned around as safely as possible. now you'll have to probably run an hour out of your way (probably put you back on your original fuel route anyway), but dummy, you should have double checked your route. -
