The FSC really creates a grey area where a percentage paid driver is probably getting screwed by most carriers. Before we had FSC the carrier or company in most cases paid a percentage paid driver a pay rate based on the gross revenue of the load. The fuel cost was and has always been a factor in determining the rate that a carrier would charge a customer for hauling the load.

Now with FSC boosting the the revenue for hauling a load, but it only benefits the company not the driver. So therefore the drivers rate of pay should be reconsidered based on the fuel surcharge that the carrier is able to charge for the load. If the driver is not getting an offset on the revenue which should be considered based on a percentage of the fuel surcharge then the driver is getting screwed out of pay.

Now the difficult question how does the percentage paid driver get properly compensated on a load that has a fuel surcharge added? I tend to believe that the proper tabulation would be to add the fuel surcharge to the gross and pay the driver off of that.

Does anyone have any opinion on this?
