Aftershock,
LOL no, I found out that by pushin the go pedal down to the floor three times will temporarilly overide the governer. Since I can only go 62 with the cruise set and 60 without the cruise, I can acually go 65 wihout cruise and 67 with cruise by using the above mentioned trick. Works pretty good when I have to pass someone going a mile or two below 62.
True, its not the speed that kills its the sudden stop at the end.
But, didnt Illinois change the truck speed limit for the reason that it was prolly safer to let ALL traffic go roughly the same speed?
So, since we are governed at 62, we should only be going 52??? Man, that really throws a wrench in the "trip plan" fan....
We've actually experienced a steer tire blow-out and it wasnt half as bad as what that "study" said.
Im not gonna say a blowout on a steer tire is necessarily safe at a slower speed, but arent you a little more likely to end up in a firey crash at 75 rather than 62?
Funny....
I agree, there should be some common sense applied for passing but I dont think puttin a bogus law in affect that says you have to pas in a certain time frame.
Of course it is when its safe and legal to do so and that you wont be holding up a mile long of traffic doing it.
Again, its all about common sense which alot of people fail to posess.
heres some friendly advice to 4-wheelers....

A few days ago I was heading out of Winfield Ks on US77, ( 2 lane ). It was very foggy that morning, visibility less than 1/4 mile at best.
There was a flatbed with a wide load in front of me and a pickup behind me and man was that driver in a hurry!
We were running about 40 - 45 and I was keeping just close enough to the flatbed to keep his tail lights in clear view.
After a couple of miles, the guy behind me just couldn't take it anymore. Around me he whips! I just let my foot off the pedal and covered the brake pedal. Sure enough, as he gets beside my door, there appears oncoming headlights and he whips in front of me just in time.
Another couple of miles with him riding the truck in front and. again, he'd had enough.
Out he goes! A second later the flatbed hits his brakes as the pickup whips in front of him, narrowly avoiding another car coming out of the fog.
Justice was served a few miles later. We were still tooling along at a reasonable speed when there appears a blue and red glow on the shoulder in front of us. Mr. in a tearing hurry pick up driver was sitting there having a heated discussion with Mr. Kansas state trooper.
Why do people try and drive faster than they can see? -
Good question.
Perhaps they are unable to see danger?
I believe one shouldn't drive faster than their
guardian angle can fly.
What amazes me is how some Big truck truck drivers
put the pedal to the metal when they're already late.
Do they think they're driving a time machine that can,
somehow, take them back in time to a point where they're
back on schedule?
Being late is a personal problem.
To make their problem everyone else's problem is an
indicator they're self-centered and unable or unwilling
to consider that late is better than never arriving at all.
I think Cat Stevens said it best when he sang;
Miles from nowhere ---
Guess I'll take my time.
Oh yeah.
To get there. :smt034:smt035

I been trucking 10 years in Baltimore md... we ride the middle lane because of the congestion and cars coming off the ramps without yielding. I hate when other trucks get ready to pass but hang out at the ### of your trailer. Ppl need to not keep looking at the mirror while being passed I hold my lane and do not look at u while passing..
-
That's not just a Baltimore thing. That's an entire state of Maryland thing.

I like to think of it as "top end" "climb" and "run"
It's more than just a set speed on the governor. I run light a lot and there are a lot of hills on 78 in PA/NJ.
So I might not "top end" more than 1mph more than the fully loaded grain hauler but when we hit South Mountain in Bethlehem, I'll be doing 58 at the top and he'll be doing 42. But coming down the back side, I might max out at 72, but he'll be at about 85 (but that's his call.)
So yeah I like to run flat out just before a hill because I don't want to drop 3 gears on a grade, so sue me.
I also make "lazy" lane changes to the right because when 4 wheelers DO try to pass "under" me, they can call me a lazy drunk trucker all they want, not knowing that if I changed lanes quickly they'd be run off the road. Playing stupid and being stupid are two different things.
And 4 wheelers AREN'T governed, if you're in such a #### hurry just make up time by doing 90 after you pass me. (clears the bears for me.)
