It's probably going to be looking to shift at around 12-1250, so that may begin to get annoying;however, all of the autoshifts can be switched to manual which would thus force it to hold the gear.

Personally I'd go for the 3:55's at 1325rpm. Your tranny shouldn't be hunting for gears at that rpm but I have no experience with the autoshifts, never even seen one other than in pictures.
When will you be taking delivery of this truck? I'm curious to see the fuel mileage now. It's my experience that most companies spec there trucks with too low of a rear end and they rev too high. Are you looking at an auto shift or an automatic trans? The auto shift shouldn't hurt your fuel mileage but the two pedal full auto would in my opinion.

Are you getting a mid roof since you will be flatbeding? they usually do better than the tall ones

Unfortunately I do not have the option of choosing my own spec's so I want to be able to calculate what a used truck will look like(IE Speed@ xxRPM) with the spec's it has.

Give me the specs and I'll try to tell you. Need tire size, tranny, rear gear, and motor make and year.

Thank you I am looking at 3 different trucks. If you can ball park me that would be great...

    1--1997 n14 410hp 10spd, 3.91, 24.5
    2--1997 n14 410hp, 9spd, 4.33, 24.5
    3--1998 c12 410hp, 10/od 4.11, 24.5

From these I should be ablr to figure any others I might consider.
    Thank You

LOL I can believe that.... Thank God I should only be in South GA very little...:biggrin_25521: Mostly East coast FL 2 lanes, hauling Timber... Not much in the way of highway runnin' so 60-65 is what I need. I like the 97 Volvo 1 owner but the 9 spd, 4.33's scare me.. Don't want to have a great off-roader for 1/2 mile and then be stuck at 56mph wound-up tight gettin 1.7mpg's for another 149 1/2 miles to the mill. :biggrin_2553:
    I found this but I am doing something wrong. I either get 37000 rpm's or 458 rpm's # 65mph :biggrin_25512:LOL.....

    RPM = (gear * FD * MPH * 88)/(cir)
RPM is the transmission gear ratio multiplied by differential ratio multiplied by your speed multiplied by the constant, 88. Divide the answer by the tire circumference. Tire circumference is found by taking your percentage (aspect ratio) of your tire width and converting into inches by dividing by 25.4. Then, add one half of the tire diameter, multiply by 2(pi) and then divide by 12.

I took my base figures for tires and tranny from these sites.
    11/24.5 tires
    https://www.bfentirenet.com/product...ry=USA&language=en_us&modelID=43&partial=true

straight 9spd varied from .73--1.0 final gear

Can you or somone else work this on your rig to see if it works out? Maybe you can tell me what I am doing wrong.. Thank You

I like the volvo autocars but that way high of a gear.

okay the calculator I'm using at
    http://www.csgnetwork.com/multirpmcalc.html

puts your 65mpg rpm at 2169 with 4.33's and a 1:1 direct drive trans which I believe the 9 speed is. 1583 if it is .73 like you said.

Personally I liek the blue freight shaker. Those freightliner parts are a whole lot easyer to get and cheaper than those volvo/autocars.
that blue one also says no on the overdrive line but that doesn't mean much most of the auctions I see say no even with a 13 or 18 speed. but that one would break down like this. with a 1:1 direct drive, 1951 rpms at 65 mph or 1426 rpm at 65 with that same .73. I don't know if the ten speed has a different overdrive ratio.
I would think the ten speed is an overdrive. Also the ten speed is a near indestructable transmission.
I HATE 8 and 9 speed transmissions. There isn't enough gears and if you pull heavy they suck, you have to wind them all the way up and then shift and it's bogged down. It's entirely possible that volvo has a direct drive trans, those are heavy spec trucks. The one I drove as a rolloff truck would only run 68 and t was turning 2100rpm

Thats what I was afraid of with the volvo. I also like the fact that the shaker has a wet-line. Makes for a more diversified unit if I wanted to run dumps or lowboy. Also shaker parts as you say are like a 350 chevy motor. Wow! this site is great for rear and tranny information.

Hmmm!!!! according to that formula I could only do 37mph at 1450rpm I think those are formulated for 4 wheelers.. nevermind... I had the tires at 24.5 hieght Doh! Thats the rim size... I'm with stupid>>>>>5mouths2feed<<<<<<
The blue shaker puts me at a perfect 1450 rpm with those gears/tires/tranny.
