So class starts this Saturday- local cc- type school. I'm paying my own way so no one owns me. I'm leaning towards Flatbeds, I think maybe more interesting? Plus the option of stepdecks and RGN exist. I drove a smoothbore for 2 years long ago so tank is doable also, although I would prefer not to do Hazmat (but could).

I'm 51, married, kids out of the house, wifes OK with this to a point(she's rolled her eyes alot over the years) pretty good shape and not afraid to work. What I don't want is weeks at a time on the road. A regional/dedicated type of deal - weekends off & a stop on the way through would be ideal. I know there are O/Op's on here that do this and I'm planning a truck in the "near"future, but I'll need to drive for someone first. No lease deals - I've read those threads.

My biggest concern is I live southeast of Buffalo,NY on the PA. border(literally) I'm about 20 miles south of I-86 , 90miles north of I-80 midway between 78 & 81.

I would like to stay in a 6 to 800 mile radius, think it's possible? I don't need to be a supertrucker or make a million and I won't overspend on a truck. Would my own authority help or lease on with someone (down the road)

I have a clean MVR and no convictions ever,

Sounds like you're on the right path and live in a decent area for flatbedding. Now you have to Carrier "Shop". They'll all promise you the Prime Rib, they just never tell you about the Bull.

I hear ya, always too much BS*

I do see some Flat beds, steps & rgn's here , the last one was haulin' a balloon!

I've talked to Guss at TMC - good dude, need to call PGT & see what they say, may be a better fit as they're much closer.

My area was my biggest concern, as most flatdeck seems to be midwest based.

Trying not to make a huge error so I read and I ask,

    Thanks

    Its worth a shot.

I was surprised we have quite a few flatbed loads going to the northeast. You may have to venture out of the northeast but just see what they have to offer.

I can venture a bit, don't want to left coast much, eastern half of US and Canada would be fine( but Florida has a big X on it too)

Roehl just contacted the school I'm going to last week and inquired about grads, a good sign i guess
