Back when that happened the Navy was really laid back. All the services were. No political correctness or Wokeness back then. My XO in one outfit was a Warrant Officer. He came back aboard the ship one time in Hong Kong and was wearing colorful sunglasses that had a big flower on each side on spring stems. Some Ensign on duty chewed him out for being out-of-uniform and setting a bad example for the ships crew. He grabbed the Ensign and threw him overboard. Everyone on the ship was laughing about that incident and nothing happened to the Warrant Officer.
