Hernia check and tenderness

Ok folks most everyone has had their under carriage checked for hernias (what fun) well i went to the doctor last friday to have some tenderness on my left side checked (pulled muscle thankfully) but while he was there i had him check for hernia, and he didnt do the normal "turn head and cough" he took his thumb and pressed it in as far as he could on each side right above the "boys" , and boy he really went in---nows it been tender not all the time but on and off----he gave me a clean bill of health--but is this tenderness something i should worry about or is it just cause of it being tender and him taking his thumb in around there
