I was also involved in real estate sales as a builder/broker for years. Do you know that in real estate contract law, if the broker/agent is representing both the seller & the buyer, the broker/agent(s) first obligation of representation is to the seller?
Not only that, the broker/agent must disclose that in writing with acknowledgement signatures from both the seller & buyer.[/QUOTE]
The reality is that the shipper is the broker's customer, or client, and service to that customer is how the broker maintains there business.......just as the broker is our customer.gokiddogo Thanks this. -
Oxbow Thanks this.

Which brokers do that?
The only repeat broker I use is a spot market broker: customer needs a load moved and he gets it covered, by calling the carriers he uses and getting a rate, adding his piece, and giving that to his customer. That's a very effective way to work in my opinion. If it's contracted, there are ups and downs in any market: what carriers want for rates, how much shippers are charging and willing to pay, how much materials cost etc. -
Here's a section from a recent RateCon from them I received.

I don't know why CHRW does that. There are others who also do it but it's pointless and makes no sense. They just break out a certain amount of the overall flat rate you agreed to and tell you that part of it is a fuel surcharge. You're not getting extra money or anything of the sort.
Oxbow Thanks this. -
Here's another one from a brokerage house I do business with every now and then.
This is how their ratecon is broken down.
Oxbow Thanks this. -

Again, they do the exact same thing CHRW does.
You agree to $1,000 to haul a load.
They say $77 is fuel surcharge and $923 is the line haul.
So what exactly is the point of that?
It's a $1,000 flat rate any way you slice it. -
