I actually drove a bus when I was in HS. 16 years old, regular license, and "Here kid, here's your key, there's your bus, the kids will tell you the route until you learn it". Not even the way it is today!:biggrin_2559:

    stranger Thanks this.

That's just too danged funny, Monkeyman!

Oldnewbie, congrats on taking that first big step! Just remember, recruiters lie all the time. So do drivers, but we usually mean well, or just mean to be funny. And always make sure to check the blinker fluid, and the air in your fifth wheel, and you'll be fine.:biggrin_2559:

Well, bus drivers do field trips and such...

I liked the secure and tarp bit though! ;)

The district that I drive for owns the busses which I believe precludes the necessity for logs. Otherwise I think my supervisor would have made us aware of the need to keep a long, particularly on longer trips away. I have a trip coming up Thursday. I'll drive about 175 miles, about 3.5 hours, to the destination city, then transport the students around to their activity, then to the hotel. Friday will just be activities, lunch, dinner, back to hotel. Saturday will be activities, lunch, then return home. I need to double check, I may be assuming too much.:biggrin_25514:

I was 57 when I got my CDL,still driving and enjoying it...so go for it and make it fun.

As far as herding a bunch of kids around, will you take a long rope and tie them all together to keep from losing any? I hope you have plenty of adult help. Mercy mercy.

There will be several chaperones on the trip this weekend plus the choir directors. I've driven these kids to events before so they know the drill..."have fun, laugh and talk, listen to your music, play your games, .. but SIT YOUR LITTLE BUTTS DOWN, PERIOD"!!!:biggrin_25523:

OK, so you have a handle on the kids. I think I'd be more worried about the "chaperones" and most definitely the "choir directors!":biggrin_25513::biggrin_25525:

The last trip I took the choir on I had to make my position quite clear on the "stay in you seats" issue. I have zero tolerance for that particular misdeed, so, after a couple of the kids changed seats while we were traveling down I-10 at about 65mph, I found the next safe place to pull over, stopped, set the brake, killed the engine and stood up and faced the kids and adults. This fun lovin', sugarbear of an oldnewbiegonnabe left an impression on kids and adults alike. The choir directors had the most astonished looks on their faces and, I think, the making of skid marks in their drawers. Bottom line: Don't stand up on my big ol' yeller school bus!!!!:biggrin_25513:

I absolutely am a teddy bear, it's just some things don't sit well with me. Fortunately, for me, most things just roll off. :biggrin_2559:
