Nothing wrong with any engine from that year . Cat , Cummins or Detroit.

There all about as good as it gets.
The n14 is no different, very reliable with good power and fuel mileage.

Having said that, yours could lay an egg tommorow.
You need all the maintenance records and documentation to get a vauge idea if it is a good runner or a ticking time bomb. It' is always a crap shoot buying used. Just do your homework and
    Good luck !

As far as the cel who knows. Got to pull codes and go from there.

Really no guarantees on anything 20 years old. Like Swaan said, it could run for another million or puke tomorrow. For sure, they are a good motor, everyone knows how to work on them. But nothing will last forever. One thing to be aware of, many N14 reman parts such as heads and injectors have been rebuilt many times over and reman quality is starting to suffer because they haven't made genuine brand new Cummins N14 parts for many years. Many stories here about guys having to replace a reman injector 2 or 3 times until they get a good one. The N14 is actually an engine Cummins wants to do away with and stay focused on more modern products.

I’ve got a ‘99 KW W900L with a 500 hp N14. I’ve had it over two years now. Bought it with pretty heavy blow by, knowing I’d need to rebuild it soon. Well, I ran it a year and a half (hard oilfield miles), and she never did lay down on me. Finally did an inframe just for peace of mind.

Good, solid motor and easy and cheap to work on.

As stated, any motor from Cat, Detroit, or Cummins from this era is as good a bet as any for reliability.
