Little info: 26, work in an automotive factory, farm girl, single, no kids, sick of factory work and contemplating getting my cdl. Really want to do long haul but have no idea where to really start. Am sure my family's reaction won't be well received once I get my cdl but oh well. Its my life and Kentucky holds absolutely nothing for me. Am highly mechanically inclined and even have a degree in diesel technology but yet again there is absolutely nothing around here. I love to drive and all trips I make are done trucker style.

Your options would seem to be to either go to a community college and obtain your CDL and THEN sign up with a starter company or to go to a company that will train you. I would recommend the community college. As far as WANTING to go OTR...you should have no problem at all as you are certainly in the minority there.

    Hello and welcome DixiePrincess

I'm sure there are some links here somewhere to help you find a good school, and figure out where to go from there. I can't find them right now, but I'm sure someone smarter than me will post the links for you eventually!

Keep posting, and keep us up to date with your progress!:Trailer:

Thanks for the welcome. Have been doing quite a bit of research/reading to find out exactly the direction I want to go. Am pretty sure I'm going to go to one of the tech schools and get it back. Had my CDL for awhile but let it go due to going to the military for awhile. Stupid on my part I know. I truely want to drive. Loved it before I went to basic and went to the middle east for a "few" years. All I've done since I came back to the civilian world is work at unnamed automotive factory (run CNC lathes), farm (grain and dairy), and when get a day off either race or pull my tractor. I think the biggest thing about wanting to drive again is getting away from my lovely family who still even though I'm 26 tries to but in and interefere with my life.

I hope you use your gi bill and get your cdl back. We need more hard workin women out there. I for one think women in trucking makes it better and I'm not being sexist. Diversity in the work place is always a good thing.

    Welcome to the party!

You go girl!!!! There are lots of lady drivers on here and out on the road. If the family don't like it, they will have to get over it. Mine did.

Poke around here on the forums, as there is a lot of info on schools and on starter companies.
