I've been driving for a little over five months now. When I went to school for my CDL, I spoke with the owner of the school about how to pick a company. He said that the three companies I was looking at were quite similar. His suggestion was that I just pick one, get six months to a year of experience, and see if the company is still a good fit.
I think this was good advice. And, I do like the company I chose. But, they do not seem to have a lot of business in the Northeastern US. So, it's been difficult for me to get loads when it's time to go home.
I'm here to find out what other people's experience has been with this sort of issue and how to handle it. And, I'd like to look for another company to work with in my area.
I see my relationship with the company whose truck I drive as a business proposition. My loyalty is based on the profit margin I realize from the arrangement. I'm finding my current arrangement lacking. But, I don't even know yet whether what I'm experiencing is normal for the business.
hi all...

welcome to trucking pal.this how its always been, that one load that takes you home is always difficult to find but a load going the opposite direction is always available.this is a game the dispatch plays ,they get to go home everyday they dont care about you.good luck in finding a company that treats you like you deserve.

Yeah.. I'm trying to give them the benefit of the doubt. But, I've got an appointment tomorrow morning they've known about for a month. Two days ago, they gave me two consecutive loads. One that delivered yesterday about 8 from home. Then I was to deadhead 600 miles south to SC to pick up a load that delivers two hours from home on Tuesday. Between the two loads I get paid for ~2600 miles. However, since I've got that appt, I get to sit for a day while they find a load to relay. Then another day at the relay point while they find a driver to pick up the relay.
