Actually I think there's a hot shot trucking section on the site here.
If it were me, I would go on to there and find out what equipment these guys are using and what kind of work they are doing.
It also depends where you are in the country and where you are willing to travel. There are different Lanes that are regular travel Lanes between shippers and delivery points, and some areas may have a lot of Freight and some areas may have less Freight.
So theoretically you would get more money traveling from an area there's more freight, but if it takes you into an area there's less Freight you'll get less money on loads coming out of there if that makes sense.
Another example is that in certain areas a lot of Hotshot guys haul cars. And depending on the area it can be saturated. In my area I don't think those guys make very much money at all.
So you haul something else. It's all about learning and being ready before you start, and then adapting.
You need to go into that forum and go into the search bar and do every bit of research that you can as far as how that business works, how the lanes work, how you get paid, how much money you need to make on every trip that you make, how the guys are doing their taxes, whatever.
I'm not sure how to advise you with the trailer because a 40 ft non CDL trailer that is let's say 14,000 lb gvw, is going to be lighter than a 40 ft trailer that is 18,000 or 24,000 or whatever you need for whatever you're going to haul.
If you have an f 450 you can derate the trailer so that the combination is 26,000. In my state you can do that, I'm not sure if you can do that in all 50 states, you need to check that type of thing.
And you need to figure what the maximum weight you can haul in combination on a gooseneck with your F450. Whatever that maximum weight is, is probably the most money you can make with that truck and trailer combination, would be my guess.
But that may be a different trailer than what you would need for non CDL, so again, you have research and decisions that you need to make.
Hi guys, I'm new and I need help please.

I'll definitely do some more research on the forum, but I thought this was the hotshot section?
As far as lanes are concerned, I'll look into that more. But my overall plan was to simply be willing to travel to every state until I found what works best for me and be willing to take any type of load so long as the pay is good -
For example you might get a load that pays a lot of money, but it takes you into a dead area that you can't get any freight out, or that whatever you take out is just going to pay for fuel, that's it.
So if you take that load you have to have a plan that you're either going to deadhead somewhere else to get another load, or you're going to be able to take that cheap load because you got so much coming in, that you take the cheap load to get you to where you can get a better paying load, but you have to know where all of that is in the scheme of where you're traveling to.
I apologize, you're correct you are in the hot shot section. I'm always in the owner operator section I somehow assumed you posted there.
Use the search feature and do your research and when you need to, make specific questions and ask on this forum and I'm sure someone will try to help you. -
Ok good haha, had me confused. I'll definitely read more in this section.
That's essentially what my plan was. If i ended up in a dead area I figured I'd look for anything close that takes me into a good area or deadhead to a close by area with a good load, hopefully. I'll look into the shipping Lanes though to minimize any setbacks
