Hi Im new

    I will tell you alittle about myself. Im 36 and have been married for 18 years to my wonderful wife and I have 3 kids. I grew up around trucks and always wanted to become a driver. I worked as a teamster back in 89' and 90' as a dock worker and really enjoyed it.

    The company I worked for moved out of state so I thought that was the end for me. I worked in construction for the next 12 years or so and finally thought to myself what am I doing. I had no experience in driving a truck but thought to myself that it cant be that hard.

    I went and got my CDL-B and have been driving for a disposal company for the last 5 years. I here now because I want to buy myself a truck, dump or tractor. I actually wouldnt even mind getting back into the teamsters but not sure where to start with that either, so anyway I have done alot of reading here in the last few days and there is some really great info here.. cyas around

    Welcome from the "opposite" coast, you say you a CDL-B so you are looking at single compartment dumps or the like, most of us on this site are longhaulers, Class A, but the upgrade shouldn't be that hard to get (don't know Jersey law), anyway, times are tough right now, but buying your own can be very risky.

    Fuel is going to be a big issue again as the prices are expecting to jump up and freight is typically slow right now, maybe another month or so by historical standards, but with the current economy nobody really knows when it should start getting back to good volumes.

    Unless you have a good 'in' with some dump outfit, do some real good checking before investing. Good luck in whatever your decision will be.
