I worked in and out of trucking for 15 years. After being away for over 5 years I bought a truck back last Dec and have been trying to blog on a regular basis.
I keep tight records and see I need $2 bucks a mile to make a profit. I projected I could do it on $1.70 a miles but i'm falling short. I'm booking 3200+ miles a week and averaging 1.81 on paid miles and $1.59 on all hub miles.

The old $2 a mile mindset rears it's ugly head. Too many confuse rates with averages. There is a difference. And as you can see $2 rates equal go broke averages of $1.50-$1.60. Guys if you're not pulling $3 a mile RATES, on the low end, you're not covering your deadhead unless you don't deadhead very much.

And you will learn that it doesn't matter who pays to haul the freight as long as your rate gets paid
