i have a new to me '93 freightliner fld 120 that i am going thru and undoing all of the mickey mouse stuff that has been done to it. in this process my once working high beams not longer function.
basically, when i flip the headlight switch down to turn on just the running lights, i hear a relay clicking and nothing works. i can flip the headlight switch up and all lights work, except the high beams.
ideas on where to start looking (besides the obvious electrical system - need to narrow that down a bit)? wires were "jumped" into the headlight wiring system to get fog lights to work. i did not like the way it was wired and only removed the wiring to the fog lights. obviously i inadvertently did something else to caused the high beams to stop functioning.
thanks for any possible help.

Do you have the ignition switch turned on? On a Freightliner FLD120 you have to have the key (ignition) switch on for the high beams to work.
dibstr Thanks this. -
Per the Freightliner FLD120 manual:
Headlight Switch and Daytime
Running Lights
A three-position headlight switch (Fig. 2.8) is used to
operate the exterior lights. When the switch is up the
headlights, and all other vehicle lights, are on. All
vehicle lighting is off when the switch is in the middle
position. When down, the switch activates only the
clearance, instrument panel, and marker lights, and
the taillights. The switch for the headlight high beams
is built into the turn signal lever. When the headlights
are on high beam, a green light in the warning and
indicator light module goes on. The ignition switch
must be on for the high beams to operate.
For vehicles built to operate in Canada, switching on
the ignition and releasing the parking brakes automatically
activates the headlight low beams (later
model vehicles) or high beams (earlier model vehicles)
at half voltage as daytime running lights. The
daytime running lights will operate until the parking
brakes are applied; then they will switch off. Turning
on the regular headlights will override the daytime
running lights. The vehicle cannot be driven unless
either the headlights or daytime running lights are
activated.joecitizen Thanks this. -

Does the Highbeam indcator come on?

Thanks everyone all for the replies...
Never thought I would need the key one for the high beams to work. When I get back home from the holiday weekend, I will give it a try and report back.

left upper part of your fuse panal is the relays for headlights.. the headlight relays also operate your marker lights replace, both the left headlight relay and the right headight relay... also make sure they are not corroded. a windshield that is leaking will soak the fuse panal. then its not a bad ideal to remove and replace all corroded relays

finally got to the truck today and sure enough, turn the key on and voila...high beams, even the indicator light on the dash is working!
still got a clicking sound coming from the relay for the trailer...
thanks again to all who offered input...DSK333 Thanks this.
