most operating manuals iv'e read recommend against low idle for extended periods of time. i run a inverter and a regular house fan it uses less juice than the 12v fan did. never had to boost it yet

My Detroit is smoking, light smoke, at idle quite a bit lately. If I bring it up to 850 it quits smoking but it is worrying me. It doesn't use any oil or coolant so I'm really not sure what I'm looking at.

Cummins ISX should high idle to maintain enough heat to not clog up with particulates. 1200 is the low end of its high idle range.

I have my own authority and I try not to idle as much as I can. My ISX 600 just had an in-frame 20k ago at Jerome Peterbilt. They added a few performance parts not real wild and it spun the PDI dyno 675 hp / 2250 tq. with all the emissions in place still. The Cummins rep said idling is the number one cause of problems they are seeing. These newer DEF emission engines can cost 1000's a year with turbo actuators, sensors, filters, and controls. My fast idle is about 900 and really isn't high enough to burn clean and or regenerate efficiently. You tend to keep a little better care of your equipment when repairs come out of your pocket so minimum idling for me.
