Dang @Chinatown I always thought I was up on my Navy terms, you made me go running to Google far too early this morning!

Thanks! I hadn't seen that one. Years ago there was another one, that I used to get in touch with some friends.
Hope all is well with you & the familyChinatown and Wasted Thyme Thank this. -
It may not be legal for a company over 50 employees to offer more pay in lieu of health care. I know a provision like that was part of Obamacare, but I don't know if it's been struck down or changed.

Some USPS contractors will offer higher pay in lieu of benefits.

Some companies will do that but typically they can't advertise it, when I was at NEMF I asked that when I got hired and they said they couldn't do it. But 3mo later when I was off probation I got a thing from them saying since I didn't take the insurance they were upping me I think $2/hr. wasn't much but worked for me at the time. Definitely easier with smaller co's.

Ha! I asked the same question when I first started. The VA takes way better care of me than they should so I did not want to pay for insurance. I was told " dont worry it was crappy insurance anyway" and there would be no extra pay for not getting it but it would cost me 30 bucks a week if I wanted it.
So in a way , you do save some money depending on the company you drive for. I dont think many starter companies give you free insurance to start with anyway.
