I an Army Veteran, Still have my GI-Bill, mid divorce with my first wife. I have 3 kids. Located in Athens Georiga. I do not have my CDLS, but im looking to get them asap. Ive been seeking a new career, and noticed theres tons of local jobs in my are with starting pay of 900-1000 take home every week, home daily. However, most of these jobs require at least 6 months Class A CDL experience.

I don't mind going over the road for up to a year, and getting some experience so that I can land a local job. I would need to be home at least once a week to see my kids. Ive been reading on this forum, and im really interested in LTL Jobs, and line haul, but none of my local places are currently offering Dock To Driver programs without moving to a different state, and I just cant afford that right now.

Im also really interested in tanker, but im not aware of any companies with a inhouse cdl program that will put a new driver on a tanker. I have no problems using my GI-BILL for the OJT program, I prefer to do that, and before some says don't waste it on that, I have no interest in going to school. NONE.
Id like to make 45,000 plus my first year, and save some money up.

What are some of the better companies for new drivers, or veterans.

Pay is nice but your expenses will be thousands each year if you don't carefully watch them.

And you have to build savings with each load delivered.

Then you need to build physical stamina, endurance and a mindset for the USA as you see it and learn it. Your first year as it is for all truckers is the most difficult time of learning, breaking stuff, losing jobs, possibly being fired for anything like being late etc.

At the end of the year if you are LUCKY, you are still trucking, have something the bank hopefully your El Dorado Real at 45K and up...

You can only learn by doing in this industry and eventually with a little luck you will have a goal met provided you get away with this long enough without being disposed of.

Ive worked in the trucking industry for 3 years, no driving positions. Ive met so many people along the way from different walks of life, and knowledge. I know the first year will be tuff, my first year in the military was tuff. Im good about sticking to something once I put my mind to it. I know with 1 or 2 years of experience allot of doors will open as far as local jobs. Most jobs local to me only need 6 months experience. I have allot of ltl local to me, and a couple of megas. Just not sure which way to go. Im pending a city job with decent benefits, and a 30 year retirement. But the pay is low, top out is about 45k at the highest level. I already have a partial retirement from the military and get medical and a monthly pension. So really what im seeking is 60k plus after I get some experience. I can comfortably live on 30k or less a year, and I want to stack the rest.

Tanker companies do hair follicle drug test, so must be clean for 12 months.
Some other type companies do urine drug test, so need to be clean 90 days.

I worked for AirGas for a long time. I was the assistant distribution manager there, so I handled our drivers pay. Id very much like to drive for them, as the average 350 a day, and are home daily, off most weekends. However they get so many applications they have there pickings from drivers with 20 years of experience and clean driving records. So it that would be a long shot lol

The Schneider Bulk pay from that ad seems a little low. I think you'll make much more than that. Some of those drivers right out of the military and cdl school are making closer to $1500 weekly with Schneider Bulk. Maybe the terminal you haul out of has different product or freight lanes that bring the pay down a little.
