You would get more responses if you listed your location and what you like to haul. Chinatown has made several posts about companies hiring across the country.

It's hard to say. It all depends on your experience, how you'd like to run, and for some companies, running lanes. Me personally, as long as the cpm falls in the competitive category, I'm good. I like to run miles so I like the companies that can run me 3000 miles in a week as often as possible. There are some short haul companies, like Ascend Transportation in Jackson, TN that pay higher cpm but they don't run all that far.
insipidtoast Thanks this. -

Location: Nashville, but willing to go anywhere.
The options for new cdl holders are limited. Therefore, it won't work unless the company specifically hires new grads.
Besides no driver-facing cameras, the other must haves are: automatic trucks, inverter, no slip-seating (shouldn't be too hard)
So far I'm thinking these are the potential options:
FFE
IRT (a little worried they wouldn't know how to take advantage of a team very well. seems like there would be lots of time wasted at shippers and receivers)
Some linehaul (ltl companies) - we can usually rule these out for one or another reason: manual trucks, driver-facing cameras, require experience, and overall not being conducive to living in the truck.
IWX - their team relay position sounds great (mixed reviews and it sounds like they still have driver-facing cameras)
Baylor (I haven't looked into them too much yet)
Ashley (still need to ask them if they are even setup for teaming though, seems purely regional, and I wouldn't want us to do the TN region. Yuck)
Less interested in:
Western Dairy Transport
Dillon Transportation
RE West
Heniff
I've worked for otr companies in the past that just go all over the place, and wouldn't want to team with an outfit like them. Maybe the experience for teams was different there, but for solo I made decent money, but I always saw how inefficient the operation was with so much wasted time.
I'm leaning more towards something like FFE. I like the idea of a company that has a good terminal network and has local/regional drivers working those terminals, stockpiling loaded trailers, and then in come the teams to grab the pre-load and linehaul it to another terminal thousands of miles away. Drop &hook; rinse and repeat. Not saying it would be a deal breaker to bump docks, but would definitely prefer that be a very minor aspect of the team driver position.
I know there are a ton of other companies out there like Schneider that could train us and then put us on some account that would dock bump us ad nauseum with garbage pay.
There are probably some decent reefer companies out there that know how to efficiently run a team. While I wouldn't want to do reefer as solo, I think with the slow economy I'd be more willing... especially since as a team it would probably nullify the bad aspects (the sitting & waiting) especially if it were mostly a long-distance linehaul-type position.Last edited: Mar 13, 2023
