Has anyone heard anything good or bad about this company? Talked to a recruiter yesterday but to me, a recruiter is nothing but a lier so I'd like to hear from the drivers point of view before I jump from one bad desision to another. Please hurry I can't afford to keep making peanuts at Us Xpress.

    Thanks guys

The drivers I know that have been there or are there were or are happy with them. Good equipment. dispatches seem to deepnd on driver attitude. crappy attitude leads to the same kind of load. seems to be a good company.

I have driven for Hill Bros for the past 15 months. My first three months as a company driver, and the past year as a lease-purchase operator. I keep a detailed blog covering this experience but this site prohibits external linking. You might want to try Googling likely keywords until you find it. (or, see below)

Miles have been consistent during this period, even given the economy and over this past winter. Somewhat surprising, but we do carry a lot of refrigerated freight and people gotta eat, so they say. I've averaged about 2,600 miles a week during this period with one of 4,014 miles and quite a few in the 3,000-3,999 range. The only weeks I've had with fewer than 2,000 miles were ones that I have taken more than a couple days of home time.

In a few weeks I will have all my settlements together and will post a spreadsheet, linked from my blog, with the week-by-week breakdown of my miles, pay, fuel costs and the like for everyone to see.

The recruiters at HB are straight shooters in my experience. Talk with Jason "The Ninja" Bishop next time you call (he knows my blog and can give you the link if you like). Call him "The Ninja" and ask where his beard went, lol.

HB isn't nirvana but they do know how to run a trucking company, in my view. Nothing fancy or outrageously cheap, though come to think of it you will enjoy the hotel they use for orientation if you decide to go that route. I stay there on my own dime when I'm in town while my truck is in the shop.

If you have any other specific questions list them here and I'll try to drop by occasionally and answer them.

    Good luck,

    Jim

Thanks Powder Joints for the info. As for JR OTR, I've been reading your blog closely for a several months. In fact, judging by the time that you posted this reply (appox. 8:00pm), I was reading your blog. Was it the Tyson plant in Goodlettsville, TN? Was just there yesturday. According to your blog entry for today your sitting about 50 miles from me.

    Ah, hehe, close call!

Actually, I was at the Associated Wholesale Grocer place in Goodlettsville. Haven't pulled out of Tyson there before.

I think I mentioned in my blog, the lumpers there were cheap (40 bucks for the whole shebang) and fast, something you don't see very often in my limited experience.

    Good luck,

    Jim

bigcountry30, I received your private message but I don't yet qualify to reply... I suggest using google to find it, or call the recruiting folks at Hill Bros with questions.

    Good luck,

    Jim

Just found this forum. I have been with Hill Bros now for 19 years. I don't plan on leaving. Have things always been perfect? nope. Are there things that I would like to see changed? Of course. But overall this company is the best fit for me. I have been looking around to see what others offer and I haven't been able to find others as good for me.

I've been a company driver, local driver, Omaha to Kansas City and back, and a L/P driver now for more then a few years. In the past years as a L/P driver I have always traded the truck off when I built up enough equity in the truck to trade it in and break even. Now with the truck prices depressed I have been in my Volvo for 3.5 years. Repairs have been a downer this year but still love the truck.

I make money with Hill, get home, and run in areas I like so all is good.

    To update my original reply:

I've now been with Hill Bros for almost 2.5 years, the past 27 months as a lease-purchase operator. Everything I said before stands. My online spreadsheet with all of my settlement information shows an average of 2,453 miles driven per week since June of 2008, and average net weekly pay (after all truck expenses) of $1,259.85 during that period. I made a bit more in my first year compared to my second due to taking more time off -- I bought a house a year ago and generally spend 11 days out and take a 3-day weekend there.

One of my five goals is to net (after all truck expenses) over $250,000 during the four years of my lease. At my current pace I'm on track to bring in $262,048.71 and my current net CPM is 50.93 for all dispatched miles. Those of you who are morbidly curious about any of the other gazillion data points from my settlements can Google "OTRjournal" and follow the search results.

    Good luck,

    Jim

The trucks are 13 speeds at Hillbros correct?
If I have never driven a 13 speed, only 10 speeds......
Do they give instruction on how to drive it and
give you a few hours to learn?

    Jeff144 Thanks this.
