    @ Jim

I worked for them for 2 months in June/July 2006

The female dispatcher came from Customer Service and was shipped back there. They told me she was no longer in dispatch when they asked me to stay.

But I was so angry by that time that my complaints had been ignored that I wasn't about to stay.

Apparently I wasn't the only one complaining.

Hill Bros had a lot of good runs if you wanted to work hard. I prayed for the Pet Smart runs, they were my favorites... though it was impossible to do them legally because of the pick up times, and multiple drop times in the middle of the night and wee hours of the morning.

The problem was when they got me out of areas that they had the contracts in. The dispatcher who was responsible for me never heard the term "pre planning".

I have no idea how they they run under experienced dispatchers. The dispatcher I had was a complete idiot and I didn't appreciate training her with my money.

So if you have been there since 2008, they must have stuck her so far away from dispatch that no one has heard from her again.

I can't argue your experience, but I didn't have a good one myself. My HB experience was very costly.

HB did have an excellent reputation for hiring only the most experienced and best drivers. That is why I decided to offer my experience and truck to them.

I rarely hear anyone taking bad about them. Obviously my experience was fluke in the big picture.

From what you have said, it appears that female dispatcher I had really did get put back to Customer Service.

Training students? Back when I worked for them, they would not hire you without excellent references and atleast 2 years of experience with a clean driving record.

Again, thanks for your reply Jim.

I was with them for 9 months... the first 6 months teaming with my wife. We were told 48 state but to expect mostly midwest.. which was fine. What we didn't expect was a circle of Denver, Omaha, Dallas... day in day out we pulled for at least 2 months before we started griping and got a bit more diversity.. but not much. After 4 months my wife came off and I stayed as a solo.

The first month was great solo and I ran pretty well. After that it went downhill. I spent alot of 16 to 20 hours sitting for loads just to get something overnight day after day. I spoke up about it several times (more about the sitting than overnights) and even told them that I'd be leaving if something didn't change. I did that for another 1.5 months before, somehow, it seemed I was on a fedex dedicated. Thats ALL I pulled.. overnight fedex's out of Kansas City to Denver.. and food back to Kansas city... if it wasn't a fedex out. Never once did I ask for a fedex... or dedicated.

I put in my notice a weeks earlier but I was done after I was dispatched out on a beer load from Ft. Collins to some small town in Kansas. I delivered at 7am (up at 6am mind you) and really hit the dock around 10. Just before doing so I was given a fedex that picked up at 6pm bound for Colorado springs and "had to be on time," which was 5am. That load was late before it was even dispatched considering I still had a little over an hour of a deadhead to the pickup. There was some him hawing and they finally told me "no other trucks in the area" and "do the best you can." I told my DM to bring me to Omaha and that I was done with the inexperience and bullcrap I was putting up with.

There were particular people that were great.. (which were most) and I really enjoyed working there but when the miles dwindled to around 2k a week or less... and there were nothing but excuses as to why I couldn't take it anymore. 3 months was more than ample time to get things straight. I had a feeling then, and now to see their taking students now... I personally think they are trying to grow faster than their infrastructure and freight base allows. The Werner concept sure does seem like its taking root.

Planning on moving to Phoenix AZ from SW/PA in the future, and Hill Brothers cought my attention since they do a lot of Pet Smart loads out to Phoenix. Got 20+ yrs o/r exp, and been with my current company for 6 yrs now, with a good driving record for the past 4 yrs.

What kind of home time should i expect, plus will i be able to take the truck home, and what kind of weekly take home money are we talk'in?

Well I've got a decision to make, Hill Bros. or JCT.

I'm liking everything I hear from both, but just not sure which one to go with.

Erin was totally cool and straight up. I would be signing on as a L/O and plus their hiring out of Arizona (major plus).

I already know what truck I'll be driving basically, unlike with JCT.

Tomorrow, Erin will be contacting me and going over my DAC and stuff which will be interesting to know how that all looks.

The only thing that might tweak me a little bit is that I'm paying for base plates and such, but it's no different from Landstar in that respect. Where (if I understood correctly) JCT pays for all of that. I don't know why I would care, but I do a little.. lol.

IF you guys don't mind me asking, I was just wondering what some of you L/O or O/O are bringing home on your settlement?

Is it reasonable to think I can bring home at the very least $1k a week or am I fooling myself with this company? especially with E-logs? Have any of you guys run into problems because of E-logs? And is there any advice you can give prior to me going into orientation?

    Thanks. :biggrin_25519:

Unless this has changed recently, you have to come on as a company driver and spend (I think) 60 days as such before you qualify for the lease program. If you bring your own truck, you can go the o/o route from day one.

Up until the end of last year, with bonuses you were making 94 CPM at HB and 92 CPM at JCT. The plates and reg cost roughly $2,400 a year which quite coincidentally comes out to be 2 CPM at 120k miles per year.

Now, as of the start of this year the pay scale for HB went up by 4.5 CPM on loads over 350 miles if I'm reading my settlements correctly. Erin will have all the nitty gritty details on that.

I post all of my settlement information online for all to see. I've been leasing since June of 2008 and in that time my net, after all truck expenses, is just under $1,200 per week. Most lease drivers do not make this much, but $1,000 a week net is certainly attainable. If you want to learn what I do to earn my wage, ask Abbie when it comes time for the L/P program talk which will be on your second or third day of orientation I think. Erin or Abbie can give you my web site address where you can view all my settlement information in spreadsheet form as well if that interests you.

    Good luck,

    Jim
