I made a voice recording on my phone of myself reading the check list and listened to it in every quiet moment I had.
I also used to go down to the pool room in the hotel we had and draw circles and arrows etc on the 1 blank wall with a wet hand when nobody was in there lol. Not maybe full scale but 1/2. Like-Draw the steer tire rattle off the tire, rim, bolt, seal, arrow to the behind and rattle off the u bolts, brake hoses and pads/shoes. You get the idea. For me play acting the pretrip interview and vivid visualization helped me.
Plus group study if you have that option. Someone else might have a great method or something..

 

Also. My group basically had 2 types, the guys who've already worked with trucks, and those who were noobs. I'm a noob, still...but im mechanical and curious. I used the learning the pretrip to ask lots of questions about the parts and how they fail, what prevents it, what stuff does, I mean translation of hydraulic brake to air brake isn't hard, but the spring chamber was brand new. An air dryer? Leveling valves? If I'm operating this beast I want to understand the components....

 

@Wasted Thyme - is Mr. Bill Cheney still in the training/safety dept at Stevens? He used to be over all the OTR trainers. He is a great guy and I learned a whole lot from him, just sitting in his office chatting.
