As in Post #17, go with a temp or casual service. You're good to go as long as your DOT medical card is current and no pre-hire process to go through after your overseas ventures. Probably won't have to deal with spycams watching & listening to you 24/7 either.
Technically it is quitting under dispatch, but I did take the truck and trailer to a terminal. Hell, I even left the straps on the step deck so the next guy could just hook up to it and go deliver it.
Check you DAC report; they might have "Load Abandonment" on there, which means most companies won't hire you.
Never quit under dispatch anywhere. Plus no company wants a driver who will work for 3 months and then your off again. You don't make any real money for the company for the time you're there.
I'm a glutton for punishment I guess! I go back to them because they made it easy for me in the past. I work out all the details via email with a recruiter, I get to the PHX terminal, don't even attend an orientation, just update my paperwork, get a new DOT physical, take a road test and backing test, get issued a tractor and set my PTA for early the next morning. It was that easy. I'm also very familiar with the way they do things, the shippers, the routes and the terminal network. Familiarity makes a person comfortable.
I'm like an illegal, I'm only in the USA for the work. The robo trucks will be on the scene soon enough though, so don't sweat what I do or how I do it.
My DM was not a very good communicator and the times I did talk, there was always a touch of condescension thrown in for whatever the reason. The way I see it, if being an experienced driver with a clean safety record is not good enough, then I am looking at the wrong company at this point.
I had an emergency that required my presence, so I did what I had to do. I did a personal leave of absence for 30 days, I thought I was good to go, until I tried logging onto the Swift website and about 4 days after I got home. They had already taken me out of the system and they put my last check on my ComData card.
