Hiring qualified employees is always a challenge, simply because we are all human... we've all made mistakes, we all have our own personnality that may or may not mesh with the company and the current employees etc. So, I would say overall, yes, most companies are still having struggle to keep up with growth.

Not to my knowledge currently. West Texas hires some here and there, but they can only have so many newbies etc. Currently full up from what I've heard. If you're just looking for a foot in, you might try looking around for a swamper position, it a laborer attached to a truck, it will get you the training and the advancement would be up to a driving spot. Just a thought!

Thanks for the tip! Is that the name of the actual position, Swamper? Also, about how much less does it pay compared to the drive?

Swampers pay around $12-14 an hour depending on the area, it's a good bit less, but you're not controlled by DOT 70hrs either, so you can work more hours.

Also, it's an "entry" level position, so lower pay is to be expected

Not sure, he's still working I know that much!

Well, it's been awhile but I'm still alive. I had to come back to FL in mid January. I'm actually leaving for TX in the morning though. Hired back on with Nabors. From how I was treated, and what I learned while I was there, Nabors is the way to go. I'm excited to get back and start making that $$$. Not crazy about going back to living in a man camp, and being an hour away from any fun, but I made $20K in three months if that helps anyone make a decision on whether the oilfields are worth the commitment. Good luck everyone!

Ya, I'm back with Nabors at the Kenedy yard. Same place so learning dirt roads and unnamed roads have already been learned lol.

Kenedy is not that bad. Too close to the nasty Loves in Three Rivers for comfort though. lol Beats Cotulla, Encinal, lot of the others. And the Shiner plant is only 60-70 miles away.
