Not a dumb question, as shown here, most get it wrong. If it is a required "class" it is supposed to be logged "on duty." If your just screwing around on the computer it is your own time: "Off duty."
The fact you get paid for something has no bearing if your "on duty" or "off duty." It is required by Swift so you are to log "On duty." Anything done at the company bequest is "on duty. "
Around the time Swift came up the with that "Swift university" some terminals correlated the time stamp when the driver logged into the class and when the test was taken and wrote drivers up for log violations for not logging "on duty." It doesn't happen often but it has happened.scottied67 and DarthAntTrucker Thank this. -

What makes you think that? If it's a required part of the job it's on duty, doesn't matter if you get paid or not. No difference than fueling, pre/post trip and such.

Guidance: Yes. All work for a motor carrier, whether compensated or not, must be recorded as on-duty time. The term “work” as used in the definition of “on-duty time” in §395.2 of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (FMCSRs) is not limited to driving or other non transportation-related employment.
Question 19: May the time a driver spends attending safety meetings, ceremonies, celebrations, or other company-sponsored safety events be recorded as off-duty time?

so my logging will be on duty, not driving for company required traing, even if im at home waiting on trainer.

Yes. To be legal you have to go back in the Qualcomm (or call logs dept) and edit your logs to show the time you worked doing training.
Now, that being said.... I would not bother for a couple reasons. Mainly it sounds like you will be home long enough to get a full 34 after doing the training. The other is it's kinda a pain with elogs to go back and edit them for something like this. -
Because everyone follows the rules to the T. If I'm not getting paid I'm not logging it. Just my 2 cents.
