Do you guys pay them for the hours if they stop over for 1-2 hours for an oil change?

I am in process on implementing a monthly bonus ... like a gift card based on their trucks fuel mileage.

I do pay them for stuff like that yes...so long as the required repair item wasn't their fault. For example a fella blew a tire a couple years ago...didn't pay him for that because he should have seen it was flat before he left.

I used to run containers from Phoenix to the port in long beach,ca. It can be a pain in the butt sometimes. If all a driver is running is containers, it can be hard to make a good living if they are being paid by the mile. Sometimes you can sit at the port or the train yard for hours.

Specifically for oil changes no because that is done in our shop by our mechanic but if they wait at the dealer for other stuff that they didn't break then yeah they get paid. Like reading CEL codes, emission tests etc.

I'm just having a difficult time finding drivers that NEED a job. I don't even know where to start looking, we've already gone through any contacts we have by word of mouth. Just wondering what I'm missing?? We offer benefits, weekends off, and competitive pay. Just at a loss here and I'm tired of seeing our new truck sitting on the lot. HELP PLEASE!!

Why are you having trouble? Is it their mvr with outstanding marks, drivers just don't wanna work, your standards too high.Alot of companies are having a tougher time finding drivers and I think its because if their records. They don't have trouble finding applicants but so many get disqualified. What about the pay,are you paying a competative wage?

Well, we have had a few applicants, but not near enough applying. I'm just trying to get us more people to choose from. Where can I go to recruit drivers? I've been told from the drivers that have applied that our pay is comparable to others (benefits, time off, etc.). We are a small family business so we try to be competitive with others on every angle. The only problem I've been running into with applicants is NO experience in a Class A truck, or the driver unwilling to drive a "particular make of truck".
