I called the recruiter as was told that they hire in SC but not east of I-95. Disappointed. Do you guys think that this may change in the not so distant future or am I just plain screwed when it comes to Swift. I have a friend in the Charlotte area and she say I could change my address to her's but I would want to change it back eventually. Myrtle Beach is my home and I would prefer to do my hometime here eventually. I have no wife, kids, friends, family, pets so I could saty out a while if that would make a difference but according to the recruiter they just don't hire here now. Just was wondering what you guys thought. Thanks.

There are companies other than Swift. Most carriers have areas where they don't hire. The main reason is that they don't have freight in those areas to get you in and out. There isn't much to haul out of Myrtle Beach. You may want to consider searching for a different carrier or relocate so that you can work for Swift.

I don't think they hire without experience. I have a cdl but haven't seen a truck for two years and even the didn't have but a couple days. I can drive the truck. No problem but don't have the experience. Thanks.

Yes, there were a couple USX, SChneider. They would take a 40 hr refresher course. USX wants me to run teams for six months. Schneider may be a possibilty but they hire for individual jobs and there is only one in my area. And it's dedicated for only 1500 to 2000 miles a week. I was hoping that I could just sign up for OTR or regional but I don't think it works that way. Swift, said they would take me if I can pass the road test without the 40 hrs refresher which I am sure I can pass. I was just trying to all my ducks in a row. I appreciate the suggestion though. I thought about WSE too. I really am not fussy about the trucks, hometime and even mileage for my first year. Just want to get experience. I consider the first year training.

Well,, they do have training,,,it goes something like this,,you go out about 4 weeks with a "trainer",,he is paid a set salary,,YOU get paid YOUR miles driven (unlike Swift and others) The trainer never drives,he is there basically to observe and teach if need be.

Your starting pay (CPM) would be .31 cpm unless you do have some experience, then it would be more.

I am going to have to contact them if that's the case. On their website it says minimum 1 year but things may have changed. Looks like a good company though. You mave have givin me a little hope. Thanks for that.
