A few months ago saw an ad for Milan Express in your area:

It's a dry van company that hauls dedicated freight for certain customers.

I recommend tanker work to start out with. Later if you want local work, you can make good money hauling fuel to gas stations and truck stops.

I went to sage. I didn't take the full 160 I took the shorter version but I would recommend them in a heartbeat. All drive time is 1 on 1 no other students in the truck with you. All the instructors were old timers with 30+ years in the industry and didn't try and sugar coat things like a recruiter will

And if you're looking to be home for your kid you could get into food service. Most food companies will hire right out of school and the pay is better than 80% of the industry even for 1st yr drivers.

    Gordon food service
    McLane
    Us foods
    Sygma
    Maines paper & food
    Performance food group

On the low side your looking at 1000 wk take home and 13-1400 on the higher side for 1st yr. Most places are home daily or at most gone 2 nights a wk

Davis Express is a southeast regional refridgerated carrier based in Starke, Fl. It says on their website that they will hire fresh cdl holders who graduate from the local cdl school (Bradford Union Technical Center Commercial Driver program). I would call them and check on this, see if they would reimburse you on the schooling. The company does mostly night driving, but they advertise a 7 on/2 off schedule. No idea if the company is any good, but it's an idea.

P.S. There is an insane amount of local jobs in the tampa area when you get some experience. Just go to Indeed and search "truck driver" in Tampa, Fl.
