First of all I hate this happened to you especially right before the holidays.

I can only offer an opinion and ask a question.

IMO in the long run you are probably better off without them if they treat drivers this way. Now that you see how they handle situations like this, do you really want to stay there ?

I had almost the same thing happen to me in the Bronx in the late 90's only I was pulling the guy I was leased to at the times trailer. NYC sucks out loud...

Good luck I hope it works out for you.

Get your boss to the parking lot and measure the trailer height together

Once again I'm gonna state i was on a truck route in NYC. The route the city want trucks to take. I had gone under this bridge loaded & empty around 500 times. Was doing it twice a day for 1 year straight. The road was not repaved and have other company driver follow this route also no problem with him fitting under it. So isnt a case at the wrong spot. I was right where I need to be and was on correct route to leaving the city. It is a case of my truck malfunction. It happen twice in my rig where the air suspension was over inflating to where I got stuck trucking to get out from under a trailer a week after this happen.

I agree under normal circumstances, but you're missing 2 parts; or so it seems. The driver already specified this as a designated truck route, secondly we have all been informed that NY Bridge measurements are from the hub. It's a sticky one, but when the equipment is listed as 13'6, and the measurement you take is 13'6.5 you have a chance of beating it.

So I was informed by FDNY that the measurement are from the lowest point of the bridge not the hub. And after calling and asking them about that bridge they said its high enough for semi to use and is the truck route. Their ladder truck uses that route.

You're missing the fact that truck route or not, he was still over height even if he was pulling a flatbed at 13'0". The legal height was 12'2" .
It blows, but I seriously doubt he has a legal leg to stand on.
The fact he went under it 500 times just means he broke the law law 500 times. It's not a get out of jail free card.

    Badmon and calnca Thank this.

I was just wondering if there any legal action i could take. And only reason I want to keep the job is that its high paying & im number 4 in seniority. And im not a rookie of NYC all my driving experience has been NYC so I know my way around pretty good.

So wondering how you get thought NYC at all since all the bridges are posted 12'6" even on 95 and all other highways just wondering?

Bean Jr. and bryan21384 Thank this.
