Hey,
A friend of mine just got his car totaled by a tractor-trailer on I-295 in Jacksonville. He was driving along in the center lane when the tractor swerved to the left and hit the front of his car; this sent him into a sideways skid and the rear of his car was hit by the trailer's rear tires.
The truck drove away; this was a hit-and-run (which I assume is a pretty serious violation for a CDL holder).
Fortunately the friend is OK... unfortunately his car is not. He doesn't have full coverage on his car so he won't be getting much money from his insurance company.
Does he have any recourse, or any way of figuring out who hit him? Would it help to report it to the state DOT? He says he didn't get any identifying information and the trailer was unmarked.
Thanks for the help!

Well not really.. Unless somebody witnessed it and called it in... Your friend should of instantly been on the cell phone calling 911 to have the police chase him down... Other then that unless he has the name of the company, trl number ext.. he is out of luck...

Tell him to get full coverage next time, if he has 0 info of the truck he is screwed.

Who the hell get there car hit then ran over and one have no one notice it, and 2 why didnt he call the cops asap? I mean come on who does that happen too and no one calls 911? if it true the way I see it he screwed himself by not jumping on the horn right away.

pdxtrucker, he asked if he should report it to the DOT not 911. Does 295 have traffic cams? Without information to who hit him then he is pretty much out of luck.
pdxtrucker Thanks this. -
data_man, I know thats what he asked just sounded a lil off didnt mean anything by it and wasnt trying to be rude.
