HMMM i wonder if we re getting APUs

    NOT TRUE ....as far as drilling holes in frame is concerned.My former company started buying APUs six years ago and they mount using clamps on frame rail, no holes are drilled anywhere.MAY TRUCKING COMPANY telling you they are not cost effective because they trade in too often is also polite fiction....the cost of APUs is recovered to the third power ( I.e. they get three times the initial investment back )this is accomplished via; 1) fuel savings in the five years of operation,2) higher resale value of the truck with very little idle time and the fact that it is APU equipped at resale.
    FACT also that the cost of. " transplanting " the APU from the trade in truck to the new truck runs about $ 1000.00 . This cost was in a 200 truck operation.I submit that in a fleet as large as MAY TRUCKING COMPANY these cost could be driven down significantly by having a specialized transplant crew at one of their shops.

    BUT ....why should they care or make the initial investment in their drivers as long as the drivers put up with being charged for staying comfortable....I will bet the office staff at MAY TRUCKING COMPANY has one heck of a Christmas party /bonus after they collect all that " idle charge ". I have heard of lots of creative eays trucking companies steal from drivers ...this one tops em all !
    B T W what was the temperature in the office at Brooks or Clayton or Pensacola on your last visit ???

    nevermind, I'm done trying to provide positive information for you to think about hiring on...
    if this is your attitude BEFORE working at MAY TRUCKING COMPANY...please stay where you are...we have enough pi$$poor attitudes here already
    While I agree 100% about your APU info, your pre-disposed, NEGATIVE attitude towards MAY TRUCKING COMPANY leads me to think you are NOT a fit here, and would very unhappy at MAY TRUCKING COMPANY.

    I don't drive for May, but I have an APU on my truck.
    Works great. No service problems and it pay for itself in the first 15 months.
    Sounds to me...and I'm only surmising here... May just doesn't want to put out the initital investment necessary.
    Especially if they can browbeat drivers into not idling or charge back some costs.

    Sorry you feel that way, but I believe facts should be shared it makes the whole industry better, I have discussed this matter with MTC to my satisfaction but I do appreciate your input as well.
    Having had a thermoking tripac on my truc(s) for the past six years and NOT having one on my truck for the last three months I truly appreciate the technology probably more the those who have never had the APU available to them. If my sharing these facts with MTC drivers would cause each and everyone of them to research the facts, question company policy and walk in and ask MTC management to revisit the APU issue I would be very pleased.

    You may very well be correct that I will not be a good fit over there, I am a career driver with over 30 years and three million safe accident free miles. MTC seems to be very interested in me signing on and in particular , my willingness to train students and share my expertise, this is why the idle policy was addressed early on in my pre-employment negotiation.....but if their business model is sleeper monkeys who never ask questions or offer suggestions to make MTC a better place to be or conversly those questions or suggestions fall on deaf ears I have no desire to. " fit in ".
    I do appreciate the fact that you are a dedicated satisfied employee at MTC but I will wager you have addressed the idle policy issue with management , and been satisfied yourself.

    reading it back, I actually didn't mean it as negative as it came across...
    But, with the predisposed ideas you have, MTC doesn't stand a chance. Coupled with the fact that you are a career driver. I think there would be some serious clashing or personalities...
    They do very well, for what they are...a medium sized 48 carrier with most drivers being EntryLevelDrivers-5yrs. They are far from a bottom feeder, considering their ELD numbers...
    I'm glad you didn't take it as negative as it reads.
    You are correct...I have discussed the issue ad nausea, and see it for what it is...I work within 'the system' to make it work for me. I refuse to be uncomfortable, but refuse to pay for my comfort...

    I truly wish you the best of luck, but given your experience, I think you would get restless/frustrated here...

    Being charged for idling to keep comfortable to me is just criminal. At one time I considered signing on with May, but at the last minute backed out. Glad I did. I don't idle unnecessarily, but I will to keep comfortable. What I do usually (unless it's exceptionally frigid or excessively hot) is only idle during my sleeping hours so that I can get an uninterrupted sleep session. Time spent at shippers, receivers, fueling, or just kicking back prior to sleeping, I don't idle. My company lets us do this if we don't have an APU equipped truck.
