I think DOT is governed at 55 or 58. I know they are always going VERY slow on the road.

I work for Dot Foods out of Modesto, CA and our trucks are governed at 60 or 65 (driver preference) because we get a $.03/mile bonus for driving under 60.

We get DOT foods deliverys each week. Drivers that I have ever talked to always had a great attitude. Always nice as can be. Never complained about the company other than the pickers who put the product on the trucks. Driver that delivers at work said they do alot of unloading and alot of breaking down pallets so im guessing they dont hire lumpers. He also says he gets more for breaking down our loads than driving for a couple days so im guessing they pay them well to do it?

I think the pay for unloading the trucks is more than fair. For example, the load I just took up to Tacoma, WA was about 3,300 cases spread out over about 300 line items on the order. We get paid $.06/case and $.20/line item. For that trip, I would earn about $260 just to unload the truck for a few hours. Along with $25 pick up pay for bumping the dock at the pickup I did that they loaded about 5 pallets on my truck, I'd say that driving is just a part of what all we get paid for.

All in all, I'd say the pay is fair.

I also drive for Dot out of the Mt. Sterling, IL location. They pay very well but that's just a small part of why I work for them. They treat their drivers very well and take good care of us. Pay is good, benefits are good, hometime is awesome. :)

Does anyone know if DOT Foods hires folks with no experience? And what can you expect to make in your first year? I am possibly going to start school at a local community college here in Springfield, Illinois. It seems like DOT Foods is a good place to start. Thanks.

I just started at Dot 7 months ago and I had no previous experience. I was promised a minimum of $50K my first year. I am a driver in CA.
