In Texas if you get into any litigation with an HOA you have to pay their legal fees, even if you win your case. Seedy lawyers will sometimes cruise neighborhoods and file suits on behalf of HOA's without even telling the HOA. In my opinion, such legal privileges have allowed some HOA's to turn into little banana republics.

Benjamin Franklin said it best.” THOSE WILL GIVE UP LIBERTY FOR SECURITY DESERVE NEITHER”. Maybe not exact wording but it’s close enough.

Nope, I could not deal with an HOA. You don't like the way I maintain my property? It's for sale, at my price. Otherwise, #### and move on.

Many folks don't expect the HOA to be a issue when they sign on, they likely don't even read the fine print until the HOA tells them to dismantle the engine tripod on the front lawn

So true. There are cases where an HOA has legally placed liens, and even sold people's houses for unpaid fines, or dues. All in the HOA bylaws you signed.
It's just another example of power corrupting people.

HOAs in Colorado can steal your house .
They can foreclose on it and steal it without ever even notifying the homeowner

no way I’d ever live in a HOA

I’m the kind of person HOAs keep out
    their

What's even worse is when the board members don't even live or own houses in the HOA they represent.

Wow I am kinda shocked at some of the answers here.

Maybe this is some new "2 kinda people in the world" speech I can give my kids......

"Well kids...ya have 2 kinds of people in the world. Pro HOA and anti HOA. We are a anti HOA family"
