I'm tossing around the idea of becoming an OTR driver. Hogan starts at .38/mile + .02/safety bonus. Stevens starts at .26/mile. Stevens appears to have a longer training period.

Why the huge difference in pay?

Any info would be much appreciated.

Well on the surface it would appear to be a $300-$450 difference in pay per wk to do the same job. If the rest of the job was the same at both carriers, I would go for the money. Home time and benefits are part of the equation too!

It's too big of a difference to ignore. I may just visit Hogan to see what the deal is. They are based in my area, I think.

ask what the average miles are too. .38/mile doesn,t mean anything if the miles are not there.

Which ever one you choose, I hope it works out! It's a great career and can pay very well if you make the best of it.

Thank you, Banker. I'm looking at maybe going to school in January.

I would like to become a trainer to maximize my income.

Well I would think that one would need to get years of experience before training others! But it would be something to shoot for. Just my opinion.

Well, that's what I mean, become a trainer after getting the experience. It's hard to find information on this company..

well, if u had said 28 cpm vs 26 cpm id agree with the "average miles" concept. but 12 cpm is hard to overlook/ lets say the lower pay guy guaranteed you they would run the heck outta you...4000 miles per week is just about the maximum you can legally run in a week before you run out of hours. if you did that every single week at stevens (and theres no way you would) you would be making $1040 per week. at hogan with 38 cpm, in order to equal the "maximum you will ever make" at stevens... you would have to run 2736 miles. extremely do-able on a regular basis, week in week out. ive had the VERY occasional 4000 mile week (usually means you are counting some time from previous week that you didnt get paid for because cutoff time for payroll was not met)...lets say in all the time ive been driving it happened 10 times. on the other hand, the times i had less than 2700 miles is, while not nearly THAT infrequent, infrequent. id say if those were my only two choices, hogan wins, no question. maybe talk to a couple hogan drivers first, make sure they dont think hogasn is the worst company on earth? oh and btw, i have yet to hear any good things about stevens... have a few friends who drove for stevens and had some rather unpleasant things to say about them.
