I'm a trucker wannabe that lost his job just over a month ago. Spotless DMV record with zero crashes in last 20 years. I've seen some talk that's concerned me relating to gaps in employment and was wondering if a two month gap is something to be alarmed about. I want to and have been doing lots of studying for cdl-a license so I can hit the ground running at a company school and would like to spend another couple of weeks prior to applying to one. My employment record was great prior to this hiatis. Should I rush to enroll? Thanks in advance for any guidance.

I wouldn't worry about it honestly. Our economy sucks and the POTUS just spent more of your tax dollars to give his cronies raises they don't deserve or need. I'd put down "down economy" to explain the gap. If you're that worried about it. Get a job as a barista. Any job is better than no job... especially if it's only temporary.

basically anything over 30 days with most. And they have to verify back 10 years.
i never tell anyone to lie...... so here is a suggestion. If you know someone who can "verify" your employment with them...(over phone or possible by fax) to fill in those times that might be hard to verify. They will be asked if you drove a commercial vehicle, what dates and maybe if if you would be eligible for employment again. ie were you fired. NEVER do that to make up driving experience or the fleas of a thousand camels will visit your undergarment(s)LSAgentOZR Thanks this. -
Even though I didn't lie about anything, afterwards I realized that most companies do not dig that deep. Just write on your resume that you worked those two months you didn't at that current job I doubt they will ask your former employer the exact date you left. They might, but you just have to take a chance. If you get caught just say you were mistaken.
cuzzin it Thanks this. -

My experience/research to date depends on what company you are dealing with. Swift wants all voids explained to some extent; up to affidavits from selected people...... USA to a somewhat lesser degree but wants a couple short lists of references they will actually call...... Prime is relatively relaxed in employment history. Some want 3 years others want 5 years and a few want 10 years. A story I keep hearing is school candidates being kicked out for lying. That would be terrible....... going half way across the country to only find a way home after being found out. And they will find out. The Patriot Act, TSA, Homeland Security and the Internet puts it all at their fingertips. Be honest up front - 100%, and everything should work out fine.

You got laid off, couldn't find another job, went to CDL school. Get into a school as quickly as you can.
-
the only way I see it hurting you is if you were fired. Some companies wont hire you if your last employer fired you. Laid-off is fine, quit is fine, fired is not.

im going with no. a gap in your employment will not normally hinder your chances of getting a job in trucking. like previously stated, a gap must be EXPLAINED, and then have 1-3 people that can verify it. anyone with 3 friends can do that. i believe they are making sure you arent leaving stuff out, like a job you were fired from, or a stint in lockup. now, the better jobs...the ones that required x amount of experience...will probably be tougher on gaps as well. but its not usually necessary to come up with a good lie, the truth is acceptable when its "unemployed".

but....you WILL need 10 years of employment history in most cases. 3-5 years of driving work history...but need to account for 10 years in nearly every case.
