So not so..... watched the boards empty WAY before the holidays hit. Brokers clear the boards so they can be off for the holidays. Shippers/receivers close for the holidays and none of them seem to want to give me the keys to their buildings so I can load the truck myself. So I run the board dry and wind up home for the holidays itching to find a load.

Im leased too FCC, we cant keep up with all the work. I had a week down from Christmas too New Years then we were right back at it. Sometimes its all about who you work for.

It's all about how much you keep in your pocket at the end of the day. Running your butt off is worthless if you only put $100 in your pocket after fuel and other expenses are paid. You ARE putting cash aside out of each settlement for that maintenance and tire fund, right?

Montana has no loads going out that pay more than a buck a mile so i let that bark and wood pellets rot on the dock!!! and if i do go into montana it pays 3.00/ mi. or more!

If they were paying good they must have been $5 a mile or better. I remember BigBadBill hauling 48' flatbed loads to North Dakota for rates like that prior to Christmas '11. Really $3 mile would be bottom of the barrel for Montana I would think but you know how brokerspeak is, anything $2 a mile is good regardless where it goes... and many fall for that bs...

Speaking of what brokers think is a 'good rate' - got a call regarding my truck posted in the Baltimore area this morning. Broker asked where I wanted to go, and I said "Anywhere that will get me $2/mile or better to the truck".

    pause

Broker: "Oh, I don't have any of that..."
