Hello. I havr a holland fifth wheel and the problem there is play in it. I observed it withb someone tugging it back/fourth and the locking jaws open and close about 1/4". The kingpin measures a hair under 2" and my other truck doesnt have any play (single locking jaw). The adjustment bolt in the back doesnt seem to make any difference.
The shop tested it with a kingpin mounted to their forklift arm and couldnt replicate it, but it does this with a trailer, creating close to 1/2" play front to back. I have not taken a trailer out with this fifth wheel and will not until thisbis fixed.
Thank you for any input.

Same trailer? Does yours have the bolt in the front of the fifth wheel?
-
I have the same problem. I'm not worried about.

Yes bolt in front, but adjusting it does nothing. Same trailer. I dont want to drive it like that and risk dropping it. I also feel it will wear out the kingpin much faster.

How did you adjust it?
If you adjusted it per Holland procedure and it still has slop its overhaul or new plate time.Bean Jr. Thanks this. -

I measured my kingpin from different angles, its maybe a hair under 2", but there is 1/2" slop front to back. My other truck (single locking jaw) has no play with the same trailer. The shop that installed it is going to look for another fifth wheel to replcce it with, so i am hoping i wont have this issue then

Buy new. Otherwise, you may be doing it all again in a month or 10.

If your working with the FW-35 plate, and you have that much slip, I usually back the adjust bolt out till the washer underneath has @1/8 of gap. Set the trailer brakes, release the 5th wheel Jaws, pull forward @6” ( not much more) and then back-back into it. You’ll want it hit, you can hit too hard, but you can back in to soft. If the gap under the adjusting nut washer has disappeared and there’s still slop, repeat the steps. If the gap is the same, either you didn’t hit hard enough to close the jaws past the wear spot or your let it go to long and it has worn to much.
My trucks run in severe conditions. I’ve put Jaw kits in multiple Holland FW-35 plates. And they will last past the time we sell them.Bean Jr. Thanks this.
