We are an event company. We haul table, chairs, large structure type tents, concert audio/video equipment, etc. We are a private (not for hire) carrier. We did get it uncoupled today!

Hey all, we finally got it uncoupled. We raised the trailer fairly high, sprayed a lot of WD40 in the locking mechanism area and on the kingpin. Used a lever hoist to pull the handle out all the way and then Rocked it a few times. It finally let go. It took about an hour of trying this in different methods.
We then tried to back up under it and it would not lock down. I cannot move the handle at all so thinking something in the mechanism is messed up.

Any one know of a good shop close to Pomona, Ca they would recommend?

    Thanks!

This video was super helpful. It looks like a pretty simple design. We did get it un-coupled but my handle does not operate this freely now. I have no idea what could have happened to get it in such a bind. I wouldn’t think built up grease would cause this amount of resistance all at once.

Seems like a rebuild would be easy as long as the fifth wheel housing that holds the mechanism itself wasn’t cracked.

Well all it is broke inside! Now rebuilding. Would have preferred replacing with a Jost but stuck 2000 miles away had to go with the rebuild kit. About $1000 once rebuild is done. And the $250 one service crew came and couldn’t even get me in-coupled. well at least I know the issue now and hopefully the shop does a good job on the rebuild.

I have a Simplex also, the jaws were worn and had a lot of slop in it and the pin was adjusted to the max. I ended up buying a new unit for about $900 bucks.
    Here's a diagram, sorry a little late.

Peace of mind has to be worth that much and you won't have to worry about that for awhile.
