Holman, FedEx accused of odometer fraud conspiracy
FedEx Named In What Could Be One Of The Largest Odometer Fraud Schemes In U.S. History

Odometer fraud is big business in the U.S. Estimates say the scheme costs consumers over $1 billion a year. And while it’s largely been relegated to sketchy dealers and private sellers on Craigslist you probably shouldn’t buy from, it apparently isn’t just there. On Friday, Automotive News reports that FedEx and Holman Automotive have been accused of rolling back the odometers of old delivery trucks in a new lawsuit...

I belive it. My own rig was tampered with at some point by someone. Whe i got it it said 300ish K miles. After some repairs suddenlynit showed almost 600k. And as new truck prices keep going to the moon you will see this #### more and more often. Cut a semi down to where it still has the drivetrain warranty and you can get 50% more the. A used truck over that point.

There is an odometer update feature in the Detroit DDDL software. I've never tried it so I don't know if it leaves a trail, or even if it updates the dash display.

Several ways and the most effective depends on the vehicle. The most common to my knowledge and what happened to mine is removing the circut board and tampering directly ether by hacking its computer, changing memory chips set to whatever you want or altering various stuff inside it in general which varies type to type.

Some use a chip this displays an incorrect value placed into a loop Betweem the screen and the computer. Some will flat out replace it with a lower mile unit with a block in the wireing to the odometer from the ECM. Some will tamper with the ECM to force it to update the odometer to a lower value.

There are so many ways to do it its honestly stupid.

About 10 yrs ago I had to get a new ecm for a truck I’d just bought. It made the miles go back to zero. By the time I sold it, it said 300k but was really over 600k. I was upfront about it but was surprised it was that easy to do without even trying.

That is both sad and messed up at the same time. Sort of makes me never want to buy a used vehicle again.

I know elog reads ecm mileage and not truck mileage unless they are the same . Dash display was replaced in a 2004 I drive when speedo quit and they didn’t match up. Newer truck display reads ecm though
