Was loading w an Air Products driver at our plant today.
    He wasn't happy
    They cancelled Christmas
Apparently they are like 60+ drivers short thru out their system and instead of heading home as he was supposed to and prepared for, he got the call that he is staying out another 4 wks and everyone (drivers) system wide (according to him) had their vacation time over the holidays rescinded that had already been approved.
I've learned to not answer the phone on home time.
We can't hire qualified drivers either but not to that extent.
He is a roaming driver, he fills in wherever he's needed, gets a hotel and meal money each day and make in excess of 115K yearly.
He has been out 4 wks already.
Is that enough compensation for you to do that job?

They are way short drivers. All the branches in my area are hiring, but they also have a bad reputation for being super anal and firing people at the drop of a hat. Thus word spread to not work for them.

In my safety meetings there are only a couple of people under 30, a few under 40, with the majority being 45-70. The company has doubled their referral bonus but it hasn't helped. I can't think of any good reason to recommend trucking to someone in their 20's.

We've posted signs near the plant entrance and on the US highway out front to no avail.
Punishing the drivers for poor management is not the way to keep and attract drivers.

Ya, that would never happen. Best I could do, would be to load up and take the truck home. Then leave on Boxing Day.

You do it for three years and move on. Pay for half of a house. He's clearing 6500 a month, 210k after three years? Save 120 k cash at the end?

Hello, do any of you guys drive for Praxair? I have recently applied, and can't seem to find much info about driving for them. Thanks!
