Recently I got a new dispatcher. My old one of over a year was really good and gave me "extra" time at home after having been out for 21 plus days OTR. So instead of the "company policy" of 48 hours home time I usually got 3 days, sometimes 3.5 days off. That's really all I needed or wanted really because I enjoy driving and OTR.
Well the new dispatcher tells me I can't stay home more than 48 hours this time back (or ever from now on). I've been out 5 full weeks. I spoke with management. They tell me "company policy is 11-14 out, 48 hours off". I told him that if I'm out longer than that I'm making the company more money, and I'm saving the planners the trouble of having to route me home more often. And for this I am PENALIZED rather than rewarded. Nothing he can do I was told.
The way I see it, if a driver is out 28 days he/she deserves 4 days off... I am only asking 3 and they say no. It doesn't add up. I cannot find this policy in writing anywhere... maybe I should ask to see it.
What do you think of this? I tell people this garbage and it's so outrageous that they can't believe it. I really don't want to quit this company just yet. Let's just say I have my reasons. I'm looking for a way to resolve this if possible so I can stay at least 2 more months... again, I have my reasons. Or at worst just suck it up for the next 2 months and THEN leave. Thanks for listening.
Home time doesn't add up... need advice

bummer, man. I hope it all works out for you
Vito Thanks this. -
The only logical thing to do besides leave this outfit is don't stay out more than the 10-14 days. Knight pulled a 3 day or lose your truck thing with me so 17-18 days at a time is all they got.

I thought Knight had a 14 out, 7 days off policy. I saw it on their website. -
Vito Thanks this.

14/7 is slip seat. I was a fulltime assigned truck driver. You need to adjust to making it on an average of 50 or so days off a year. Otherwise you will burn yourself out. The OTR industry standard is a day off per week average.

Stay long enough to hit your anniversary date and take your vacation. Have a new job line up by then and in between the new job and the old one take 2 or 3 weeks off if you can afford it.

The thing about company policy or any policy for that matter is there is always an EXCEPTION. Maybe let the new DM get used to you then come back with this...just a thought.

One day off per week average? I've always known I was below average, even before driving a truck. LOL -
