In my "severe duty" world I replace them as often as every 4-5000 miles in very dry season (like this summer) I just ordered a K&N kilter $160.00 american,on e-bay @ $50.00 a pop for the paper ones I'll break even in about 3 mo.

If you get a racing (car) application trans cooler and plum your return line thru it before the tanks it will drop fuel temp dramatically.

Check where the air comes thru hood for restrictions too?
I added another 6" diameter HVAC metal duct from front of truck to air box to get more air. Those aero truck filter boxes were designed for company trucks that are cut back to 450 hp and are restricting the 500+ hp trucks from getting enough air to be efficient.
Here is what I did with mine with less than $100 worth of duct work from Lowes. I came in thru a fog light duct in front bumper using floor registers (4x10) on both ends.
It really helps get more air into the air box on my Volvo that the thru the hood grill only had a 1" by 12" slot for air to come thru that restricts it like restrictor plate on a race car.
Let me add your truck may not have this restriction to the air box, but alot of the aero trucks are underdesigned in this area.
You have to do alot of little things also to get to 9+ mpg! I hope this helps you. -

Dice, that is freakin' sweet dude... now I got an idea... thanks. I'm going with the air filter and muffler, gonna start thinking seriously into how you plumbed yours also. I think inlets on the hood are gonna be a major restriction for me, so what you've done would probably be a huge improvement for me as well. Is it really possible to get 8 or 9 mpg by simple modifications without ECM work?
