results soon to come... im pretty sure they will prove to be more then just seat of the pants type feelings...lol

i will be buying both filters this weekend to put my idea to work and do away with the big donkey paper elements.
i will also be tending to a high side leak on my steering its coming from the funky type fitting that screws into the ps pump. As well as a pressure and return line that need changing. -
well i ordered both filters i thought they wouldve been in stock locally but nope they werent.
well these are the filter part number and dimensions i have 33-2057 K&n filter
dimensions are...11.6 x 10.4 x 1.8 inches
basically this filters shown here just about a perfect square and will cover inlet opening perfectly more then enough.
$49 each lifetime washable. Small filters can be cleaned fast and DRY even quicker then normal big donkey k&n type filters made for commercial vehicles. Plus 10x more air cfm wise into motor.
they will be in tomorrow thus begining my journey to another mod.. -
scratch the k&n 33-2057
i will be using the k&n 33-2456 which is 11" square by 1" thick will cover inner air cleaner hole without any issues.
i also bought two aluminum "L" angles 3' long by 1" x 1" and a piece of flat 1" flatbar stock aluminum. to make internal filter houising. -
well i got everything laid out and will take a picture of my progress and what i have done i will have one side completed today i will need one more filter for the opposite side which is still on order but i will modify housing with brackets to still hold factory filter. But it will have brackets ready for all i need to do is pull out old paper filter and throw in the k&n one. Early fitting results of my invention look pretty good should work quite well.
Have any of you driven the truck with no filters i did yesterday up an open road just to see how it will sound and feel wow what a restriction those paper filters are and in 6 months of use the air filters are really really dirty and time to change anyways. -
time for some pics both air cleaner housing have been modified to accept the new panel type filter, brackets and netting installed as well. i used some simple aluminum stock 1/8 thick x 1" x 1" angle some screws and 1" x1/4" thick alum flatbar to keep air filter from bowing in if it happens to do so.
all i have to do is pull chrome top cover off housing reach in slide out and wash as i need to ever so often and walla...i wasnt going to pay $$$$ for a commercial type k&n washgable filter lol.
this is the mesh i used its basically the same mesh used on the outside of the stock air filter a little recycling going on here lol
heres the new filter trimmed to fit a little its 1" thick by 12"x12" p/n 33=2456 these will work on the 11" diameter housings.
and a finished look thru the suction hole on the air cleaner housing

Looks pretty good the only problem I forsee is surface area of your new filter, you'll have to clean it alot.I work in very dusty conditions and was replacing the donaldson paper filter every 3-4 wks, I chose the K&N because it is washable at 50-60.00 ea for the donaldson paper element I'll break even in about 3 mo. asuming 0 increase in mpgs. If I used your set up I would have to clean it at least once a day.
-
If he gets in dusty conditions I would think he is going to need to clean it more than once a day. Then he will wear it out very soon cleaning it that often. I would think you would be better off buying something that is made for your truck verses trying to adapt something made for a four wheeler that doesn't consume near the volume of air.
