The CB shop mentioned in the first post is "Big O's CB Shop" in Indianapolis, IN. I-465 exit 4 behind Pilot, North of Freeway.
If you want your radio to sound "Really good" and balanced between Tx/Rx, ask for Randy.
-DO NOT LET ANY OTHER BENCH TECH THERE WORK ON YOUR RADIO!!!-
Randy is the only technician there that has a clue what he is doing.
He will request your phone number so he can contact you if he has any questions about your radio. Leave a list of what you want done to it, he will call you to let you know if he can do it with that radio or not and could make suggestions,...etc. So, he communicates with his customers before and after making the modifications or repairs.
He's been in the AC/DC advanced electronics business for many years.
He prefers working on specific radios like Cobras, Connex & General Lees.
I've asked him about Galaxy's and he has said that, "the older 2 digit models were much better built radios."
Not sure if that means the 94 HP and 98VHP aren't any better or not but their 2 digit, so I would think so?
ALSO, If you leave your radio with Randy which will be the case 9 times out of ten (because he's backed up with radios), MAKE SURE to tell Randy "Please leave my radio locked up in your office, I will gladly pick it up and pay for the service when you are here next time" -OR- have them mail it to your house and charge your credit card. They can't ship it if Randy's not there, so that would make sense.
I picked up my Cobra 29LTD black chrome on a day when Randy was not there so, I'm not sure if one of their bench techs messed with it because I recently took it to another shop and the tech there said that the limiters were removed.
I've been told that that seems to be something that the bench techs do there at Big O's, I wouldn't think Randy would do that.
Anyway, GREAT TECH THERE, just informing you of who to talk to if you want your radio peaked and tuned and whatever else you want done with it.
-Dallas Pike Shop-
I've heard from numerous drivers that that is thee best place to have your radio serviced and performance tuned. I believe they also do appearance mods as well such as LED Nitro nobs and LEDs, Noise Toys...etc.
Wish I had a load going that way
-Cheers!jbee Thanks this. -
I have been using the same CB shop since 1975. Its in marshall, TX behind the fina fuel stop. One of the best reputations around, He's also a licensed tech.
-
I would recommend sparkys cb shack. All his radios come tuned properly at no extra charge
-
Radio comes with heavy duty 10gauge power coard, has to be routed to battery or fuse box and ground has to be mounted to skeleton or chasis
But, I already know where it'll hook up and work just fine
Will definitely show the new setup on another post. -
Bob's CB shop on I-80, exit 70, in PA does some good work too. He checked out my Cobra 29 after another tech worked on it and straightened it out. So I bought an antenna and some coax there. Once I got it all set up he came out to the truck and SWRed it as well. When I asked him what I owed him he simply said, "You bought an antenna and coax didn't you? We're square."
He's got plenty of parking for truck there as well, nice big lot right next to the CB shop itself. Got a website online too, just google "Bob's CB shop". -
If you are in WI, the Q5 CB shop above the truck stop on 51 (not the TA, the other one) is great.

where can a former driver get a new cobra 29 radio and antenna plus get it installed for him around memphis tennessee?

"the radio needs to be run within it's linear region so you don't distort and splatter all over the band.'
WRONG!!!!!!!
Modulation is a MIXING process much the same as hetrodyning is! This mixing process REQUIRES NON-LINEARITY to be able to happen. It cannot take place in a linear amplifier!
Sorry, but Class "C" is the best amplifier to modulate!
