Not right
Not sure of the reg number but the way it reads now is if you're splitting sleeper time your first entry can be no less than 8 hours. If less than 8 hours your 14 hr clock does NOT stop.

I didn't say less than 8 hours did. My interpretation is right according to the DOT. I had the same argument with someone else. It doesn't matter which comes first as long as you don't exceed the 14 hour rule. You can pick it apart break by break over a week. This interpretation stood up to scrutiny after an accident, BTW. -

You'll do what you have to do do to take care of your family. It's as simple as that. The longest I've driven in one shot is 35 hours, (Mohave,Ca. To Elkhart,In.) We do what we have to!

- 1. Exceeding 11 Hours Driving Time: No driver shall drive more than 11 hours following at least 10 consecutive hours off duty.
- 2. Continuous Sleeper Berth Provision: At least 10 consecutive and uninterrupted hours in the sleeper berth.
- One would be the 10 continuous hours off duty, unbroken by any other activity
- The second would be 10 consecutive hours in the sleeper berth, unbroken by any other activity
- The third would be the sleeper berth provision explained below
- The fourth would be the 10 consecutive hours of combined sleeper berth/off duty time, unbroken by any on duty time or driving time.
- The equivalent of at least 10 consecutive hours off-duty (equivalent means 2 rest periods, one of which must be at least 8 but not more than 10 consecutive hours in the sleeper berth, the other of which must be at least two consecutive hours which can be off duty, sleeper berth or a combination of the two
When using the sleeper berth provision, one rest period must be at least 8 consecutive hours in the sleeper berth, the other rest period must be at least 2 consecutive hours which can be off duty, sleeper berth or a combination of the two.
One of your sleeper berth times must be at least 8 that means all that other crap we use to do isn't valid..

for those who are ok with bending the rules, it seems like it would make sense to never log "off duty" but rather to log "sleeper berth" instead, since 8hrs of sleeper berth can extend your hours but off duty cannot. Otherwise, they are identicle in purpose with regard to controlling when you can drive. I guess this might look suspicious to a DOT person but how can they argue that you weren't sleeping?
