I eat truckstop food for over 35 years. I have had some good grub. And some not so great grub. But then. I never expected 5 star restaurants every day either.
Honestly who really eats (and enjoys) truck stop food

here's a heads up! If you are in Oak Grove, MO the BBQ joint right there next to Petro(I70 exit 28...DON'T GO THERE! I get home every week and smoke alot on my smoker....first time I was in there I stopped at the BBQ joint. Was talking to the lady who runs/owns the place. She was nice, but had an attitude about how great her cooking is. A) it is WAYYYYYYYYYY overpriced! B) my ribs were NOT 'fall off the bone' like they are suppose to be. She charges right at $4/5(it's been a year since I've been in there) for a smoked sausage(pretty much the size of a hotdog)....total rip off! But as an earlier post said....the TA in Morris, IL(R Place) has a to DIE FOR Beef and Cheddar sandwich! GREAT PLACE TO EAT! Denny's just flat out sucks, don't even get me started on Country Pride, eating out of the dumpster seems more 'appealing'. haha Brothers Pizza at the TA in Paulsboro, NJ is really good NJ pizza, the Italian family has always been really good/nice to me(hooked me up when I was short on cash one time.....long story on that.) But yeah...you gotta look at where you stay and pay attention...I hear ya on 'commercial truckstop' food is crap thing....we all know that! But some strokes are different for other folks, ya know?

I find all sorts of good food out here, mostly at mom & pop joints. Select Petros are much better than others too

Food for thought. ..
Petro/TA - order off the menu instead of the buffet. Healthier choices and fresher
P/J - pizza is not bad. One slice is enough. The meatloaf is actually very good. Meatloaf, mashed potatoes, green beans for $7
Probably 75 percent of the mom and pops with a restaurant are decent. Especially breakfast
Jackson, tn - bbq stand across from loves - none better anywhere
Find the spots that the locals eat. How you ask? The same way the did it before smart phones. Catch a local log or grain truck on the cb. You will be surprised. They will steer u to truck parking, even if its just a gas station with a wide spot to pull off.
We (she) cooks a lot on the weekend, so i always have lots of leftovers. About twice a month, she makes to die for rotisserie chicken salad. Sliced up watermelon and cantaloupe.
Always carry 2 gal jugs of water filled from the refrigerator filter at home. Pretty much free. -
Exit 298 on I70 in Kansas. Park at the little Shell truck stop, and viola, within walking distance of at least half a dozen places to eat. Cracker Barrel, Cox BBQ, Family Buffet (Chinese, and a vice of mine), Freddy's, and several others. There's a WalMart there, too. Beats everything in Salina, and just 40 minutes down the road.

Well, every once in a while I get a hankering for those roller grill taquitos,,,
But I found another place that sells them for a BUCK less! (For 2)
I'm always astounded when a drink, a cup of coffee and a few snacks can end up costing more that a dinner at Applebee's. Sheesh!lonelyguy Thanks this.
