The problem is your Hood Pin or Latch is worn out, the Hood Latch has two claw-like clamps that grab the hood pin when the hood is shut, over time the Hood Pin, Latch or both wear out, because the metal gets worn out and the Latch cannot grab onto the Hood Pin, so eventually it needs replacement.

I had the same issue and replaced both and it solved the problem.

Yep its most likely time for new hood latches. I have seen cases where the latches were just so caked up with grease and crud that they didn't want to move like they should. Cleaning them completely and applying fresh lube worked in those cases. But 9 times out of 10 when one of our volvo hoods starts opening on its own, its time for new hood latches. Keep in mind that both the latch mechanisms themselves and the strike pins (the part attached to the hood) get worn. So when you change one, you should also change the other.

Same applies to changing volvo hood cables. They stretch over time. So if one breaks, you really need to change both or you can end up with a headache trying to get them adjusted properly because they won't be the same length.

I think the problem is the hood latch. I replace mine 2 years ago. Same issue. Driving down the road, hit a bump and pop. Hood on one side opens. I replaced, and don't have the problem any more.
