Hey. My name is Ron . I applied to Us Express, and faxed the paperwork sent to me back to recruiting on Friday. A little background. I'm 46, and although I don't have verifiable OTR experience, I've been driving a tractor/trailer for 7 years, as a Van foreman for a national moving company. I had A DUI 02/2009, in a few days that DUI will be 3 years old, actually the conviction will be. That actual offense is already over 3 years old. I lost my job January 5th this year. I had a little saved up in a 401k, Very little it was only 3 years old, and it's nearly gone. I'm losing my apartment and planning to move in w/ friends the end of this month. I've steadily been looking for any type of work, online for hours, and going to employment agencies, etc. For every job, there are dozens of applicants. US Express says on thier website that They will Hire W/ a 3 year old DUI, and they don't require any OTR experience. But when I tried the chat window, I mentioned that I had a 3 year old DUI, and the girl on the other end of the chat asked if my license was suspended because of it, I thought that was strange that she would ask that, of course it was. I wenton to tell her that I've had it back for 2 years now, and she responded "It needs to be be 3 years that you got your license back" How is that possible? Anyway, I talked to the recruiter, and she said that the lack of OTR isn't an issue, and maybe not, the DUI. But emphasized that theyu look at that tho. Anyway, just wanted to vent, and HOPE USX will take a chance w/ me

I strongly suspect your aare getting some incorrect information both from the chat person and the recruiter. I think you will have a problem with no verifiable Otr experience and having a CDL that is over a year old. Most companies look for recent experience or a recent CDL grad. Otherwise they want you to take a refresher course. I hope I am wrong

Thank you NoSoCraig fro your response. I suspect that you are right. Although I do have 7 years driving experience. Just not OTR. Still you're right, w/ most companies it was one or the other. If not the DUI, then the lack of OTR.
Thanks again
Ron

The lack of OTR won't matter, it will just determine the amount of time you have to spend with a trainer, the DUI might unfortunately, the way US Xpress handles orientation, you may not know at first, remember you are not officially hired until the end of orientation! During my orientation one drive was sent home on the last day over a problem he had with his hunting license, which had nothing to do with driving, he got sent home, no job, wasn't paid for the week, had to find his own way home. So be careful and ask about it before gettin to orientation, and the first day there!

I would not trust the recruiter as far as I could throw them You should call safety at the orientation terminal and ask them directly.
When I hired on at USX the recruiter told me that my 5 years as a local O/O would mean I would just need to go out with a trainer for a few days. Wrong I had to go through a USX school for 4 weeks in Drumwright OK for even though I had 2 years OTR with KLLM and 5 as a O/O doing local work. I then spent a week on a trainers truck. But this was back in the day and now they go by so many hours.
And you can bet the DUI might be a issue also since the hiring guidelines on the website are just that quide lines. Safety could still decide to not hire you if they have enough qualified bodies in your orientation.
